Our Project

Lough Grainey Valley in east Co Clare, Ireland, is an area of immense beauty and ecological value.

We are a community organisation dedicated to setting up a nature sanctuary in the Lough Grainey Valley.

Our aim is to purchase the currently available 70 acres of semi-wild agricultural land in the Lough Grainey Valley. This land will become the core of the nature  sanctuary. It is envisioned that, with time, the nature sanctuary will grow.

All land acquired by the Lough Grainey Nature Sanctuary will be protected in perpetuity.

At the present time of climate emergency, we need to protect nature more than ever before.

“The creation of Lough Grainey Nature Sanctuary is an exceptional opportunity
to protect some of Ireland’s rarest species and habitats and I
sincerely hope that it becomes a reality.”

Dr Kate McAney
Head of Conservation Development (Ireland)

We envision Lough Grainey Nature Sanctuary to
become Ireland’s flagship project
in rewilding and protection of biodiversity.
